Who Can Help Me With My Debt?

There is little that can make a person feel more alone than having to face financial difficulties.  Even married couples can feel estranged if they are not on the same page and have a plan that they have crafted in order to get out of debt.  The amount of stress involved makes it worth getting some help on this important issue.

Remember that you are not the only ones who are going through financial hard times.  Even within families, there are degrees of financial strain and success that are experience by everyone.

So, to whom can you turn for help?  Where can you go to obtain financial support and a source of encouragement?

Family.  This is probably the most common of connections for those in financial distress.  And because of the relationships and emotional ties help can often be found.  But, the cost can be enormous on family members for those who borrow money and find that they are unable to repay.

Friends.  Sometimes debt stress causes people to turn to friends for help.  This can have equally devastating effects if loans are made and payments are not kept up and the amounts paid off.  That is why the best policy is to avoid this at all costs.  Imagine making enemies out of your best friends over money – it is not worth the risk.

Debt counselors.  Those in companies who deal with situations similar to yours are a good resource and method of obtaining help with your debt.  The only thing you need to watch out for is unscrupulous companies who are out only to get some of your money.   Make sure you fully investigate the company that you are looking into.  Try to find independent sources which can validate their authenticity.  Websites like the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and even Consumer Reports (www.consumerreports.org ) can be good starting points.

Financial planners.  A good financial planner can be a good source for help with your debt.  Most have the resources and backgrounds to get you started in getting out of debt.  Even if it means that all they do is to recommend a good debt consolidation company it is worth talking to them.  A reputable financial planner can be great for advice because they can look at your finances apart from the emotional connection that you have with it and help you make wise choices.

With these resources above, you can find solid help for your debt problems.
