Sadly, with many people in debt and struggling just to seek out a living, there are the destructive people that are willing to take advantage of the situation and bilk good-intentioned people out of their hard-earned and much needed money. There are many fraudulent companies that promise they can cancel your credit card debts and repair your credit to excellent standards, all for a costly upfront fee. Unfortunately, the end result is usually that the consumer ends up deeper in debt, in worse credit shape, and out of a large sum of money while the unscrupulous characters fade off into the sunset, never to be heard from again.
Fraudulent credit card debt reduction scams are common these days and they destroy lives. Generally, the rule of thumb is if the “program” seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you are not careful with you trust with your debts, you can likely end up owing much more money than you originally did. There are a lot of scams that really appear to be legitimate, especially credit card debt reduction and elimination plans. How They Work Many of these so-called credit card debt elimination programs will advertise they can completely cancel out your credit card debts or have them declared as invalid. There is no way any individual can accomplish this unless it is you paying your debts in full. These programs will be advertised everywhere – online, local and national newspapers, on the radio and television. Some will even solicit your interest through direct mail campaigns or go a step further and invite you to an exclusive seminar. Most will guarantee their results in the ads and subsequently charge you a membership or initial service fee that can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. While you may be able to determine the illegitimacy of many companies by their guarantees but in case you can't, here are some other notable tactics used by scam companies who only want your money. Helping you is the farthest thing from their minds. • Company representative will be prone to reciting laws they claim to be kept secret or unknown by consumers that prove you can cancel your debts without paying them. • Company representatives will elude to consumers that their particular creditors do not have authority to extend credit or raise interest rates. Some may even go so far as to allege that your initial contract with the creditor is not legally binding. • Company representatives may state that one a consumer joins their program, a creditor will not be able to further pursue or collect on the debt. • Company representatives try upfront to gain access to your financial information before you even sign any kind of agreement. There are many other ways that schemers will likely try to swindle fees from unsuspecting consumers who are desperately in need of financial guidance and assistance. If you fall victim to one of the scams, not only can you increase the amount of your debt, you'll decrease the amount of any savings you have that could have been used to pay debts down. The golden rule again is that if it looks too good, it likely will be bad. Debtors need to be clear that nothing will ever be able to eliminate debts other than payment in full. |
